Some shipments require additional delivery verification to comply with carrier rules, legal requirements, or merchant risk controls. Deliveri supports four signature options, including adult and restricted delivery signatures, to help merchants ship confidently and compliantly.
This article explains when adult signatures are required, how Deliveri’s signature options work, and what merchants should consider when shipping age-restricted items.
An Adult Signature requires the recipient to:
Be 21 years or older
Be present at delivery
Provide a valid, government-issued photo ID
If these requirements are not met, the carrier will not release the package.
Deliveri supports the following four signature types, depending on carrier and service availability:
Requires a signature at delivery
No age verification required
Commonly used for higher-value shipments
Requires recipient to be 21+
ID verification performed by the carrier
Package may be released to any eligible adult at the address
Requires recipient to be 21+
Restricted delivery means the package can only be released to the named recipient
Highest level of delivery control for age-restricted goods
Requires a signature
Package may only be released to the named recipient
No age verification required
Adult signature options are commonly used when shipping:
Alcohol
Tobacco or nicotine products
CBD or regulated wellness items
Firearms accessories or restricted goods
Other age-restricted or regulated products
Some carriers may also require adult signatures for insured or high-risk shipments.
Adult and restricted signatures typically add cost to the shipment
Failed deliveries may occur if no eligible recipient is present
ID verification is handled by the carrier, not Deliveri
Signature services help reduce fraud, disputes, and chargebacks
Shipments with adult or restricted signatures may fail delivery if:
No eligible recipient is present
Valid ID is not provided
The delivery address is incorrect
The recipient refuses the shipment
These scenarios are not considered carrier errors.
No. They are only required for certain items, carriers, or service levels.
No. Signature options must be selected during label creation.
Restricted delivery limits who can sign for the package, usually to the named recipient.
